Jet lag

We thought that after arriving in Auckland at 9am, we’d battle on until a reasonable hour, and skip that horrible jet lag experience all together. How wrong we were. Despite getting on New Zealand time very quickly, we’re still falling asleep at 8pm, and waking around 6 every morning. We’re getting closer to being on a proper schedule, but that first lie-in still eludes us.

The weather in Whakatane has been very British, but no matter how much rain falls, or how low the temperature gets, there is no hiding from the fact that the Pacific Ocean is at the bottom of our road, and audible from our bed, and that there is a bloody rainforest at the back of my parents house.

We’re settling in okay, and my parents have been most welcoming to both Toria and I. We’re off into Tauranga for a night tomorrow, and hopefully I’ll get the ball rolling with getting the web design job I’ve been courting.

Right now, I think we’d both just really like one sunny day, but other than that, I’m struggling to think of anything to complain about. Last night we ate mussels caught about 100 yards from the chip shop, and yesterday morning we walked a couple of miles along the Pacific coast.
